A dark kitchen is a commercial kitchen facility which prepares food for delivery. It is a physical space where food is made exclusively using delivery platforms such as JustEat, Deliveroo, UberEats or Hungry Panda. The food is collected, and then delivered. They typically operate in a centralised location whereby they operate multiple brands from one kitchen for the sole purpose of food delivery.

There are multiple names for this concept, however, they are all the same - Dark Kitchens, Ghost Kitchens, Delivery Kitchens, Cloud Kitchens, Smart Kitchens, Virtual Kitchens...

To put it simply, a delivery platform will allow a user to choose and compare various menus across restaurants and take-aways through a single app or website such ad Deliveroo, UberEats, JustEat and Hungry Panda.

Dark kitchens are more cost-effective that your traditional bricks and mortar restaurants. They don't require a storefront or front-of-house staff which means that all of your focus can be on the cooking instead of non-essential tasks. The Ghost x Kitchens hub is situated perfectly to cover many of the busiest locations in Manchester. Manchester is the university capital of Europe, with more than 100,000 students coming to Manchester every year, Ghost x Kitchens is their doorstep. We are currently only based in Manchester as we are focusing all of our efforts in one location to set us apart from other dark kitchen sites, although we do have new locations on the horizon.
