The Ghostly Lockdown Blues

Just when we thought we were out…

The finishing line was in sight, the freedom we once took for granted we became grateful for and

were now ready to embrace the sunshine in beer gardens, dining in our favourite restaurants, not

having to wear masks that muffled the sounds of laughter and inviting conversation.

We were on the cusp of finally enjoying the summer sun outside of our support bubble. COVID

variants, vaccinations and the R number would have become a thing of the past. Sanitising to within

an inch of our lives could have been dialled down, and the stories of Coronavirus were ones that we

could tell our grandkids about.

Not enough notice

The Delta variant now threatens our freedoms further. Boris Johnson announced that the lockdown

has been extended to July 19 th and so any plans we had of going on holiday are cancelled or delayed,

and the arduous journey of trying to get a refund or booking holidays off from work, or outside of

school term time essentially becomes a hair-pulling exercise.

15 months have now gone by since we were able to unwind in a restaurant or nightclub making the

frustrations of staying the within the same 4 walls on daily basis becomes a prison sentence.

The hospitality industry has suffered the most. Even provisioning for social distancing measures was

not enough to ease the blow of the financial gut-punch.
